In my colleague’s Short Movie “OMID” my assigned assignment from my tutor juli was to record the sound for him. My assigned assignment from the director was to record the sound, be the AC, lighting and shoot part of the film. I followed his instruction. But because I learned from what happen on my Set, I record sure to make the best sound quilty for him.
The shooting started in the City/Berlin. Following the lead actor Abdullah to his German language course. I used the provided ZOOM, XLR cable, and shotgun microphone. I couldn’t use the boomer because of the city regulations clearly says that we are not allowed to use it without a permit permission. I used it once outside with him in the park / BQQ scene and the Park security asked him and me nicely to respect the rules and record without it.
For the inside sequences Abdullah was in a refuge camp. I was able to use the full provided equipment. To ensure better sound quilty I used ZOOM Stereo X/Y microphone and the shotgun microphone to record all the details he asked for.I was sometimes standing on a chair and other times on the ground.I couldn’t edit the sound for this movie because he didn’t finish it. I ended up editing the sound for my movie. For me I believe the sound track is very important element in storytelling. It sets the mood/vibes of the audience to receive the story/information smoothly. Any person with normal hearing abilities is particularly sensitive to the quality of the musical tone used, so any parody may be painful (literally speaking) to the spectator’s ear and thus able to spoil a feature film at the level of other film elements.

In my opinion Although sometimes the spectator’s sensitivity to sound effects is less, the accuracy of the recording is also important. The audience forgets about sound effects (soundtracks in general) and dives in action/story with the actors without realizing most of the times without the soundtrack, it’s just beautiful painting. The realism of the sound can then be controlled by deliberate distortion using the sound mixer, but if the recorded sound is distorted then it’s should be recorded again or consult a professional sound designer to edit it.
