          An electric car also referred as an electric drive vehicle, is a vehicle which uses one or more electric motors for propulsion. Depending on the type of vehicle, the motion may be provided by wheels or propellers driven by rotary motors or in a case of tracked vehicles, by linear motors (Barclay, S. (2009)). These rechargeable batteries are recharged by common household electricity. In the past, people have never thought that electric cars can be used in daily life as a transportation because of the high price and unsteady structure when it first came out in 1880 as luxury goods (Frank, A.a (2007)). The improved technology in the battery sector and the need for energy management has resulted in the come back of the electric cars. They are easy in drive, quieter than gasoline cars and they are more efficient and gives better performance.

Also, the maintenance cost for the gasoline car will be much higher as compared to an electric car because it will need technical inspections, transmission repairs etc. So, by all means electric cars are cheaper alternative.

          However, many electric car critics claim that electric cars should not replace the production of the gasoline car as they are lack in performance, lengthy time to charge the battery and limited range. But now with the new improved technology and invention, it is no longer true. Tesla model S can go from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and can reach the top speed of 130 mph.

          Gasoline car has been polluting the earth ever since the first gas powered car was introduced in 1855 by karl Friedrich Benz in Germany (Frank, A.a 2007). Even though electric cars do not produce any emissions directly, they are still created by making electricity. About 40% of all the electricity in Canada is created by burning coal and fossil fuel. This causes a lot of pollution to the environment and has very negative effects. So many experts believe that an increase in the demand of electric cars would push the need for more electricity which would cause burning of coal and fossil fuel. This would make the environment far worst than it is. But this not correct statement, as scientists discovered that the output of burning gasoline for each car is far greater than that of burning coal to make electricity. This study was conducted by Automotive testing and Development services. They found that a liter of gasoline creates about 5.5 pounds of carbon dioxide. To produce 1 kilowatt of power it creates 1.5 pound of carbon dioxide. Now the average car gets about 10 kpl, which create about 52 pounds of carbon dioxide, which in turn to make would create about 36 pounds of carbon dioxide. Electric cars can reduce global warming with the conservation of non-renewable resources and being powered by renewable energy, so an electric car will emit less greenhouse gases and it will be more “green” alternative.

Safer on Roads

         Furthermore, environmental and monetary benefits of electric cars, they are also safer to drive. Crash test of traditional cars compared to electric car shows the difference in safety. Tesla Motors research the situation of car fire in general and it turned out that there are about 150,000 car fires per year in Canada and United States. “Since model S went into the production last year, there have been more than a quarter million gasoline car fires in Canada and United States alone, resulting in over 400 deaths and about 1200 injuries” (Tesla Motors Management, 2).           With the knowledge of modern society, there is no reason we should not all be doing better for the future environment. In conclusion, although some people agree that gas cars are and will always remain superior, researchers indicate that electric cars are the future of the car industry because electric cars are convenient to their drivers. The cost of fueling and maintaining an electric car is much lower when compared to those of regular cars, electric is safer in terms of being prone to flaring up. Also, electric cars are more environmentally friendly, and they cut the global warming meaning that not only people but our whole planet benefits from them.
